This heading covers fresh or chilled lettuce (Lactuca sativa) of which the principal type is cabbage or head lettuce. In addition the heading covers fresh or chilled chicory (Cichorium spp.), including endive, which includes the following principal varieties :
(1) Witloof (blanched) chicory (Cichorium intybus var. foliosum). (2) Escarole chicory (Cichorium endivia var. latifolia). (3) Curly chicory also known as endive (Cichorium endivia var. crispa). The heading excludes chicory plants and chicory roots (heading 06.01 or 12.12).
